The Living Bread
This month we observed Tisha B’av, a Jewish day of fasting and mourning. It is a day of catastrophic events in the history of the Jewish Nation. Av is the fifth month of the Biblical calendar. On the ninth of Av, 1313 BCE, the twelve spies sent into Canaan by Moses returned and ten of them gave an evil report and the Children of Israel rebelled against God, refusing to take the land. On the ninth of Av 423 BCE, the first temple was destroyed, and in 69 CE the second temple was destroyed. The Bar Kochba revolt against Rome was defeated and many Jews were massacred on the ninth of Av 133CE. The Jews were expelled from England on the ninth of Av 1290 CE. They were banished from Spain 1492 on the ninth of Av. WWI, the precursor of WWII and the holocaust began on the ninth of Av 1914 CE. Looking at history we see the consequences of this “covenant peoples” disobedience and the intense determination of the enemy to interrupt God’s plan for redemption, there are many times of darkness when the light of truth is very dim, almost obscure. We are reminded in Romans 11:5 that God always has a remnant. Matthew 12:20 is a quotation of Isaiah 42:3 “… a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice.” Even though the light of righteousness is barely visible, God will not allow it to be put out. “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. The darkness and light are alike to You.” Psalm 139:11,12, “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5. This was so beautifully illustrated to us a few nights ago as we watched the moon rise over the Sea of Galilee. There were dark clouds on the horizon and the moon was obscured from sight, yet there were patches of light and sometimes a moonbeam peeking out from the dark clouds. It was dark, but we knew the moon was there. Eventually, the clouds dissipated and the moon rose and shone brightly, reflecting a silvery path on the water. Let us remember that no matter how dark our circumstances, “… God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
About us
What a joy to serve our Heavenly Father here in Israel in the Galilee where Jesus lived and ministered the last three years of His life. We continue to wait on Him and know He is making it possible for us to be here. We continue to daily seek His will and rest in Him. Next month we will be blessed with another short term volunteer. May God give her safe travels to Israel and bless her as she serves Him here.
Outreach to Pensioners
In July we delivered food vouchers to sixteen pensioners, and gave cash to three. We also assisted a widow to buy a new hot water heater this month. We continue to assist one of the club directors with transportation to the new club and give a stipend to a helper who assists with art projects and whatever is needed in two of the clubs. This month we helped buy gift books to give the young women doing National Service (instead of military duty), who have assisted the pensioners in their homes and assisted the social workers in their office work.
Other Assistance
We were so blessed by two young girls, ages five and seven, whose mother attends a prayer group that prays for Israel. They made and sold cupcakes to earn money to send to poor children in Israel. We delivered $100. (400skls) each to two believing families; one has eight children and the other three. They were so blessed and what a joy to our Lord for the little ones to already have such compassion for others.
Druz Believers
Fike and Amal are encouraged and strengthened in the Lord, even in the face of continued persecution. Their oldest daughter, Hiam finished high school this year with very good grades. The school put on a celebration for the graduates and their parents. When Fike and Amal and Hiam went, Hiam was allowed in, but Fike and Amal were refused entry. This was very hard for them as they watched the other parents enter, many mocking them because they were denied entry. Fike became very angry and went to his car to avoid a physical confrontation. He prayed and asked for the peace of God. They all went home very sad. His other children were angry that he did not force his way in. Even though he explains force is not God’s way, the children have a hard time with it. Perhaps if the Holy Spirit gives you a scripture or words of encouragement for Hiam, you could send an email or a graduation card to her. She wants to attend the university this fall. Please pray that God will provide the finances for this.
Beit Shalom
In July we hosted guests from Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Russia, South Africa, UK, and USA.
Morning Star
The congregation is providing weekly outings for the children. It is very special to see the children called forward every Shabbat to be blessed by the parents and elders of the congregation.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. Your prayers are what sustain us and we covet them as we continue to serve Him here in Israel and follow His leadership.
